The state government Odisha bagged two national awards at the Second Edition of the Janaagraha City Governance Awards announced Tuesday at a virtual award ceremony presided over by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri. 

The state won the awards in two of the five categories competing with 54 applicants spanning 17 states. The Centre awarded the Odisha government to implement the Jaga Mission to transform urban slums into liveable habitats. 

The Jaga Mission provides slum dwellers with secure tenure and access to liveable habitat with infrastructure and Centre awarded the Odisha government for implementation of Jaga Mission for transforming urban slums into liveable habitats he PHEO won the Best Civic Agency Award for universal access to piped water supply services, Covering 3,000 slums benefiting over 1.8-million population. Similarly, the Public Health Engineering Organisation (PHEO) won the Best Civic Agency Award for universal access to a piped water supply through demonstrable inter-agency coordination and decentralization in practice. Housing and Urban Development (MUD) secretary G Mathivathanan received the awards.
