Cuttack, Jan 19: Officials of the Special Squad and Jagatpur police Thursdw claimed they have cracked a sensational burglary from ajew-ellery shop in the Silver City December 4 last year with the ar-rest of five persons including a jeweller and recovery of the booty.
The officials have recovered 385 grams of gold, 25.5 kg of silver or-naments, 112,400, two two-wheel-ers and four mobile phones from their possession
. According to Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh, the accused have burgled gold and silver ornaments from Basanti Durga jewellery shop at IB Road inJagatpur area here late December 4 night last year.
The arrested were identified as Tapan Kumar Sethi of Anantapur under Jagatsinghpur, Amulya Kumar Mohanty of OTM Colony in Cuttack,
Ramesh Chandra Sethy of Ichhapur in Cuttack, Trilochan Sethi of Nayapalli in Khurda and Prafulla Kumar Sahoo, a jeweller of Chauliaganj in Cuttack. A day later, the shop owner, Dayanidhi Sahoo, approached the Jagatpur police which registered a case (505/2020) under Sections 457 (housetrespass or housebreaking by night in order to commit an offence), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 380 (theft)of the IPC and began a probe. Aspecialsquadof thepolicehadbeen investigating the burglary. The DCP said the crackdown began with the arrest of Tapan,
the prime accused. “During inter-rogation, Tapan confessed to have committed the burglary with three of his associates. After commit-ting the robbery, Tapan and oth-ers distributed silver ornaments among themselves, and sold rest of the gold and silver ornaments to Prafulla. During search, the silver ornaments were recovered from the accused, while the !12,400 was recovered from the possession of Tapan,” the DCP said. He added that Prafulla confessed to have received the stolen silver and gold ornaments from Tapan.
