Kidney racket adds one more victim


Bhubaneswar; Jan 16: One more person Saturday accused Himanshu Bhushan Nanda of cheating him by assuring to arrange a kidney donor around five years back. Earlier, the Nayapalli police Wednesday arrested Nanda for re-portedly cheating a person of Rs 5 lakhs on the pretext of arranging a kidney donor for transplanta-tion.

 The commissionerate police Saturday brought Nanda on a three-day remand for further probe into the issue. Alok Ranjan Chaini of Marshaghai in Kendrapara Saturday lodged a complaint with the Saheed Nagar police in this re-gard. According to the complaint, Chaini, a contractor was informed by his doctors that both his kid-neys have been damaged a few years back. Later,

 Chaini posted a message on his Facebook account seeking help from interested donors in 2015. Subsequently Nanda and Sanjay reached the private hospital at Acharya Vihar where he was un-dergoing treatment. Sanjay intro-duced himself as the Orissa coor-dinator for body parts transplantation section of a re-puted hospital in Kolkata. On the other hand,

 Nanda in-formed Chaini that he had per-sonally donated one of his kidneys to a person who was suffering from kidney failure. They also told Chaini that they were active members of a charitable trust engaged in such activities.

 They took Chaini to Kolkata where they got him diagnosed by a doctor at the reputed hospital in Kolkata. They even promised him to arrange a free of cost trans-plantation operation at a private hos-pital at Chandrasekharpur here.

 A convinced Chaini later transferred more than Rs 6 lakh into the account of Sanjay and Nanda. Sanjay had also taken another Rs 1.50 lakh from Chain!. However, after receiving the amount they started avoiding cha int In 2017, Chaini reportedly lodged a case with police at Marshaghai in this regard, but to no avail.

 A dejected Chaini saw a ray of hope after coming across the news reports regarding the arrest of Nanda. Nanda, a resident of Kendrapara district, was earlier arrested by the Nayapalli police on the basis of a complaint lodged by Pratap Chandra Mishra,

 one of the victims. The commissionerate police also came across a similar complaint against Nanda lodged at Laxmisagar Police station by Diptimayee Sahoo of AnguL Nanda had allegedly taken Rs 3.19 lakh from Sahoo to arrange a kidney donor for her ailing mother un-dergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. 

Thursday Ashok Kumar Nayak, a resident of Rangamatia in Mancheswar police limits, ac-cused Nanda of cheating him in the same manner. Nanda had taken around Rs 18 lakh from Nayak assuring him to arrange a kidney donor too.
