Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: Several retired Army officers Friday staged a demonstration before the office of the Economic Offences Wmg (EOW) of the state crime branch here.
The Army officers accused the EOW of snail-paced investigation into the allegations of fraud against the staff of a real estate firm. The officers alleged that 542 of-ficials have been duped to the tune of Z35 crores by a New Delhi-based firm and its state subsidiary on the pretext of providing land plots at affordable prices.
The chairman of the alleged real estate firm, Sainik Welfare Organisation and Managing Director of the city-based Brookson India Private Limited had report-edly promised land aspirants to provide Rally developed plots in a land measuring around 27 acres by June 2012. However, the organizations nei-ther gave the plots nor returned their deposits.
Subsequently, they registered a case (19/2015) with the EOW seeking strict actions against both the accused in 2015. Both were later arrested by the EOW in 2015 and 2016. However, they managed to get bail within six months on the condition to make a settlement with the
complainants at the ear-liest. But, the MD of Brookson India Private limited without car-ing to settle the matter started sell-ing flats built on the same plot that was promised to be given to the re-tired Army officials. The victims ended their demonstration only after the EOW officials assured them action against the accused for violating the court orders.
